Psalm 27:1
Bible study about David who trusts in God. He is our Light, Salvation, and Strength.
“The LORD is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid?”
Psalm 27:1
This Psalm was written by David. He was the second king of Israel. David was chosen by God to lead His people, and even though he made wrong choices and sinned, God cared for him. The Lord promised him that his offspring would one day rule forever. This is often seen as a prophecy about Jesus.
- 2 Samuel 7:16: "And your house and your kingdom shall be established forever before you. Your throne shall be established forever"
David says: "The LORD is my light and my salvation;" The Lord is a light. The Lord is our salvation. Through Him, we can be saved. He will drive out all darkness. Darkness is often used as a symbol for pain, sin and even evil. Light often symbolizes everything that is good. There are a few exceptions, like places where God is surrounded by a dark cloud (Exodus 19:16; Psalm 97:2). But in His holiness, He often reveals Himself as light.
- Isaiah 60:19: "The sun shall no longer be your light by day, nor for brightness shall the moon give light to you; But the Lord will be to you an everlasting light, and your God your glory."
- Revelation 21:23: "The city had no need of the sun or of the moon to shine in it, for the glory of God illuminated it. The Lamb is its light."
David asks: "Whom shall I fear?" The answer is: no one. When the Lord is with us, we don't need to fear anything. If God is for us, who can be against us?
- Psalm 118:6: "The Lord is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me?"
- Romans 8:38-39: "For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
David continues: "The LORD is the strength of my life;" God is the One who strengthens us. He is the One who keeps us safe in His presence. David asks one more time: "Of whom shall I be afraid?" The answer is still the same…
Today's lesson: If we know the LORD, He will be our light. He will guide us through His Word (Psalm 119:105). The LORD will be the strength of our lives. We don't need to fear anyone. Not even Satan can destroy the church of God.
If we do not know Him, there is no ultimate hope. We will miss God's protection. We will miss His love and guidance. But most of all, we will miss His mercy.
Do you know Him? If not, He gives you time. Seek Him. If you don't know where to start or what to do, feel free to reach out to us. If you do know Him, follow Him in everything you do. Show the world that He is your light, salvation, and strength.
- Psalm 119:105: "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path."
