Mark 2:5
Jesus forgave sins and also healed a paralytic: He is God!
“When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, ‘Son, your sins are forgiven you.’”
Mark 2:5
In this chapter we read about the healing of a paralyzed man. He was carried to Jesus by four of his friends. The house where Jesus was teaching was filled with people. But they couldn’t reach Him.
So the friends of the man carried him to the roof. They uncovered the roof and “when they broke through, they let down the bed on which the paralytic was lying” (verse 4).
The scribes saw what happened and were ‘reasoning in their hearts’.
Verse 7 shows us what they were thinking: “Why does this Man speak blasphemies like this? Who can forgive sins but God alone?”
Jesus knew what they were thinking and said (verses 9-11): “Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven you,’ or to say, ‘Arise, take up your bed and walk’? But that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins” - He said to the paralytic, “I say to you, arise, take up your bed, and go to your house.”
Immediately the man arose, took up the bed, and went out of the house. He was healed.
This event shows us that Jesus truly is God. He is not merely a prophet or a good person - He is God. And He claimed to be God.
Today’s lesson: Jesus is God. He not only is able to heal people, He can forgive them their sins. Why? Because of what He has done on Calvary. He took our sins and hung there. Forsaken by His Father, so that we may be with God forever.
So whatever you may have done in your life, Jesus can forgive you. His love is reaching out to you. Are you answering His love?
