Mark 16:15
Bible study about Jesus' words: “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.”
And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.”
Mark 16:15
Jesus went to heaven. But just before this happened, He told His disciples to preach the gospel. Not just to certain people, but to everyone. Luke adds more details in the book of Acts, and Matthew tells us more about it in his Gospel.
Acts 1:8: "But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth."
Matthew 28:19: "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you;"
Jesus called His followers to spread the gospel. Christian is the name of a follower of Jesus Christ. So if we are followers of Jesus, He calls us too. He wants us to bear fruit. As a tree is known by its fruit, so is a Christian known by his works.
John 15:16: "You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you."
As a tree is known by its fruit, so is a Christian known by his works.
We are called to spread His Word. This does not mean that every Christian has to be a missionary in another part of this world. You can be a missionary at home. Or you can spread the gospel at work. We should not only spread the Gospel in words, but also through our actions.
1 John 3:18: "My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth."
Matthew 5:16: "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven."
We are called to preach the gospel. In Greek, εὐαγγέλιον (euangelion) means "good news" or "gospel". This refers to the message of salvation through Jesus Christ. Why is this good news? Because Jesus is our way back to God. Only through Him we can be saved. This is the message we have to preach. This message is like a two-edged sword. It is about justice and mercy. We need to repent of our sins, otherwise we will be judged. Only through Jesus we can be saved.
Hebrews 4:12: "For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart."
Today's lesson: Preach the gospel to every creature. Shine your light in this world. Spread the gospel. Preach about justice and mercy. God's righteousness and grace came together in Jesus on the cross. This is the gospel. Think of Jesus' words, and follow these:
Matthew 5:14: "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden."
