Luke 23:46
Bible study about Jesus in His last moments.
"And when Jesus had cried out with a loud voice, He said, “Father, ‘into Your hands I commit My spirit.’” Having said this, He breathed His last."
Luke 23:46
❗ Jesus showed us two important things in this moment, just before He laid down His life: trust in God and use His Word.
On the cross, Jesus spoke the words of Psalm 31:5.
📖 Psalm 31:5: "Into Your hand I commit my spirit; You have redeemed me, O Lord God of truth."
🙏🏼 This verse was used as a children's prayer before they went to sleep. When we pray this prayer, we acknowledge that God is in control of our lives. It shows trust. Jesus Christ, God's only begotten Son, trusted in His Father. He knew that everything the Father does is good. Jesus knew this was the only way to earn salvation for us. Jesus is the only Way. He shows us that we should trust in God, even in difficult times.
Jesus knew the plan. We do not. Yet even when we don't know what God is doing, we may still rest in Him. For He is good (3 John 1:11).
✝️ Jesus also showed us the importance of using God's Word. Jesus recited Psalm 31:5. This is not just a prayer, but words written down by David through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Other people in the Bible also used God's own Word, for example:
🌊 Moses, Numbers 14:17-18: "And now, I pray, let the power of my Lord be great, just as You have spoken, saying,..."
⚔️ Nehemiah, Nehemiah 1:8-9: "Remember, I pray, the word that You commanded Your servant Moses, saying, ‘If you are unfaithful, I will scatter you among the nations;..."
👑 David, 1 Chronicles 17:23: "And now, O Lord, the word which You have spoken concerning Your servant and concerning his house, let it be established forever, and do as You have said."
⛪ The apostles, Acts 4:25-26: "who by the mouth of Your servant David have said: ‘Why did the nations rage, and the people plot vain things?..."
🔥 Today's lesson: Even when it is difficult to do, praise God. Trust Him, because He will deliver. He will help those who trust in Him (Psalm 34). Use God's own words. When you can't find the words, pray Scripture. God has given us promises, and He will keep them. He has given us hopeful words. Read them.
