Luke 17:6
God is working... Even if you have faith as a mustard seed.
"So the Lord said, 'If you have faith as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, 'Be pulled up by the roots and be planted in the sea,' and it would obey you.'"
Luke 17:6
Today's verse shows us the power of God. It shows us what our God is capable of, and what we can accomplish through faith in Him. Faith can move a tree. It can even move mountains.
There was another moment when Jesus also mentioned this. Not with a tree, but with a mountain. The disciples couldn't heal an epileptic child, which was posessed by a demon. Jesus came and healed him. After this the following happened.
Matthew 17:19-21: "Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, 'Why could we not cast it out?' So Jesus said to them, 'Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.'"
The mustard seed was, in Jesus' time, one of the smallest seeds commonly used. Jesus is telling us that even with a faith as big as a mustard seed, we can perform miracles. Does this mean we can do anything? Not if it's for our own glory. It is not you who is working, but God. God performs the miracles. Everything will happen for His glory.
So how is this even possible? It is all through faith in God. In Mark 9:23, Jesus explained this: "Jesus said to him, 'If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.'"
And we know that everything is possible to God, Matthew 19:26: "But Jesus looked at them and said to them, 'With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.'"
Today's lesson: Everything is possible to God. Faith in Him can move a mulberry tree. Even if your faith is as small as a mustard seed. So if your faith feels that small, trust God. He can work through you, and He will… Even when life gets hard and even when it feels like your faith is lacking, He is still working. He has not left you, He works. Even through faith as a mustard seed.
