Deuteronomy 32:4
God is the Rock.
“He is the Rock, His work is perfect; For all His ways are justice, a God of truth and without injustice; Righteous and upright is He.”
Deuteronomy 32:4
Moses tells us that the LORD is the Rock. What does this verse mean, and what does it tell us about Christ?
“He is the Rock”
The LORD is the Rock. A rock does not change; it remains the same. God also remains the same; He is trustworthy and faithful. He is our Rock, Fortress, and Deliverer (Psalm 18:2). In the New Testament, Paul calls Jesus the Rock. Jesus, our Lord, is faithful. God is the Rock who cared for Israel; He fathered them (Deuteronomy 32:18). He is a stronghold for His people (Isaiah 17:10).
1 Corinthians 10:4: “And all [the Israelites] drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them, and that Rock was Christ.”
“His work is perfect;”
Everything God does is good. He made the earth, and it was good. He made the animals, and it was good. Everything He does is perfect.
2 Samuel 22:31: “As for God, His way is perfect; The word of the LORD is proven; He is a shield to all who trust in Him.”
“For all His ways are justice, a God of truth and without injustice;”
Everything God does is just. His reign is just. He saves His children and judges the wicked.
Job 34:10: “Therefore listen to me, you men of understanding: Far be it from God to do wickedness, and from the Almighty to commit iniquity.”
“Righteous and upright is He.”
The LORD gives to each one what they deserve. At the same time, He is merciful. There is no contradiction; these things can exist at the same time. The penalty for sin is death, but God gives eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. He loved the world, and He gave His only begotten Son, so that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
Romans 6:23: “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
John 3:16: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
Today’s lesson: The LORD is the Rock on which we stand. He is a firm foundation. If we build our house on Him, it will stand firm. Who is your foundation? Is Jesus Christ your Rock?
Matthew 7:24-25: “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.”
